IG Boinnet differs with DP Ruto allies; pledges support for DCI

Outgoing Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet sharply differed with DP Ruto’s allies after he pledged support for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Speaking during a ceremony involving regional police commanders, the former IG stated that the commanders should ensure they fully cooperate with the DCI and the deputy IGs.

He asked police commanders to keep up the good work and to give all their support to his successor in ensuring service delivery to all Kenyans is achieved.

“As I leave this position, I have one appeal to every one of you; support the DIGs, the DCI and the incoming Inspector General,” Boinnet stated.

He also thanked them for playing their parts in reducing terror attack cases in the country.

“I want to thank each one of you for whatever role you did in ensuring that whatever we were required to do was achieved.

I know you can all agree with me and shared the pride of satisfaction that since we started this journey in 2015, we have delivered on our mandate according to the law,” he added.

Boinnet was sworn in as the new Inspector General of Police on March 11, 2015. He succeeded as David Kimaiyo.

He has overseen many reforms during his 4-year tenure at the helm of the National Police Service.

Former IG, who is now the Cabinet Administrative Secretary for Tourism, took over from IG Kimaiyo after terrorist attacks riddled the country.

He is reputed to have foiled a number of high-profile terrorist attacks in the country.
