Global Teacher Prize winner Challenges Uhuru

The 2019 Global Teachers’ Award winner Peter Tabichi has challenged the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government to nurture talents of the youths in the country.

This, he said will help in ensuring steadfast development in the country.

Tabichi spoke on Saturday at Keriko Mixed Secondary school in Njoro, Nakuru during his grand welcome after winning the Sh100 million prize.

He said Kenya and Africa have raw talents that needed to be nurtured.

“The government needs to support education and innovation fully and be steadfast on ensuring education reaches all in the country. An educated mind can easily look for solutions of challenges affecting the society,” Tabichi said.

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui promised to start a Best Teachers Award in the region.

The Governor said that the aim will help motivate the top cream teachers in the county.

He added that the annual award will be named after Mokaya and will help teachers in schools within the region to compete.

“I urge the Teachers Service Commission to maintain him in Keriko secondary school as far as promotion is considered. He can be promoted but remain to serve the underdeveloped Lare Community,” the Governor said.

The local leaders also called on the government to consider renaming Keriko secondary school after Brother Mokaya as a way of recognising him.

Kabazi ward MCA Peter Mbae said naming the school after him will encourage future generations that will come to study in the school.

Also present at the function was Sports CS Amina Mohammed who congratulated Mokaya saying that they are even looking forward to more achievements from him.

Amina has said that the national government through Njoro CDF will purchase a school bus that will help the students enjoy the fruits of their teacher especially when participating in sports and science congresses.
