Why Chelsea is offering Staggering £100k-a-week to Odoi as teams seek his signature

Although Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri seemingly despised England’s budding star Callum Hudson-Odoi, the star has sometimes back terming him as a young one while still castigating the media for pressing him to be in the first eleven.

But after the International break, and the Euro 2020 qualification matches, the tactician might have learned lesson about the young player and maybe the reason of wanting to lure the player to stay as well a the desire from other clubs to sign him.

Chelsea will consider giving Callum Hudson-Odoi a new contract worth £100,000 a week to convince him to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi’s current deal has just over one year to run and he is being tracked by several clubs around Europe. Chelsea have already ruled out selling the winger to a Premier League rival.

Bayern Munich are the only club to have made an approach and had four bids rejected in January, the final of which was £35million.

The Bundesliga club are expected to return for the 18-year-old, who impressed on his debut for England during the international break, in the summer.

But Chelsea are not prepared to let their prized asset go without a fight and will hold more talks over a contract extension before the end of the season.

Chelsea’s last offer to the player, who has yet to start a Premier League game for the Blues, was rejected in January despite being £85,000 a week.

Hudson-Odoi’s value has increased after he made a big impact for the national team coming off the bench in the 5-0 win over the Czech Republic and then playing all 90 minutes in the 5-1 victory in Montenegro. He has also scored four goals in Chelsea’s Europa League campaign.

The Blues are now expected to increase the terms to £100,000 a week, although Hudson-Odoi says the amount of game time he receives is a big part of his decision.

Coach Maurizio Sarri, who is struggling to keep his job, has played him 19 times this season but only six of those appearances were in the Premier League and they were all as a substitute.

Chelsea’s desire to keep Hudson-Odoi has increased due to Fifa banning them from signing players for two windows.

Should their appeal against the decision fail and Hudson-Odoi not agree fresh terms, the club still intend to have him in the squad next season and run the risk of him leaving for a nominal compensation fee.

Hudson-Odoi’s chances of playing more will improve if Eden Hazard joins Real Madrid. Hazard is also out of contract in 2020 and has admitted on more than one occasion that his dream is to play for Real. Former Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois, who moved to the Bernabeu last summer, hopes his Belgium team-mate makes the switch.

He said: “For me, he is a great player, but I don’t decide those things. Each one decides what he does with his life. He is one of the best in the world and as a friend I would like him to be here.”
