Why Ruiru is turning out to be a hub of fake money, Smugglers and traffickers

People who have had an opportunity to be in the beautiful city of Nairobi, have definitely heard about this town called Ruiru. But to bring you all on board, let me break down where exactly Ruiru is.

Ruiru is a town in the Kiambu County in Kenya. Located within 3 kilometres of Nairobi’s city boundary and about 0.5 km from Kenyatta University Main Campus.

Ruiru is a dormitory town for the nation’s capital, and is connected by both rail and road. The town covers an area of 292 km2  with Kahawa Wendani, Kahawa Sukari and Mwihoko being part of Ruiru constituency.

But why is it a Hell Town?

Ruiru in recent few days has been making headlines for all but wrong reasons.

It has been a hub of all illegal stuffs in the country.



Fake currency worth 32 Billion was nabbed in Ruiru together with fake Gold. Most people tried to link the fake currency to the axed CS Rashid Echesa who came clean to say he had nothing to do with it.

Forget about that, just news getting in, Police on Thursday thwarted an attempt to smuggle 25 Burundians to Asia and arrested three suspected traffickers in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime raided the home of Nicholas Mugambi Waigwa and found the 25 women from Burundi.The women, all aged between 24 years and 33 years, were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa-Kairu in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries, police have said.

It’s not over, Bhang worth 4.5 Million was nabbed in Kahawa Sukari just a month ago.

The area is just surrounded by mischief and illegal stuffs which are soiling the beautiful name of the town.

The town which is recently mostly occupied by students from Kenyatta University is raising eyebrows. Most people are asking themselves is Ruiru even posing a threat to the national government?
