People who assemble street children, give them tea while taking their photos, no longer a good course

Street families are known to cope under harsh environment but the case for these poor children in Kisii town is shocking.

The urchins in Kisii town have undergone inhumane treatment for a long time with no body to advocate for their rights..

Some of them have been molested and even raped by inhumane individuals in the town.

This was revealed by the Assistant chairperson of the Amani National Congress party (ANC) Eznas Nyaramba while addressing journalists on Wednesday in Kisii town.

Nyaramba also highlighted the instances where people assembled the street children, gave them tea and took their photos, which they use for their selfish interests.

Nyaramba also faulted the Kisii County Government for making empty promises since the first tenure, that they were going to provide a house that would accommodate the boys and girls loitering in town.

However, this is their second tenure with only two months left for them to quit offices and yet they have not honoured their promises.

“These street children for many years have been living in the streets of Kisii and they have been molested, misused and even raped. Some people use them to construct flats, making homes, buying nice vehicles and also living good lives at the expense of misusing the poor and homeless children,” Nyaramba said.

“Today I want to condemn those who take photos of the children without giving them help. They need your shelter and love; not only foodstuff,” she added.

A visibly angry Nyaramba equally pointed out that  Kisii leaders have been neglecting the children, yet they are part of the society.

He urged the county government to lay strategies such that, when one other street child is taken by their colleague to Kisii level six Hospital in case of illness, they get services as they are part of the society.
