A Nairobi judge was shocked after a Professor revealed he had run away from his matrimonial home in fear for his life.
In a trend that has gained footing in Nairobi, the estranged academician
Edward Kairo – a professor based in Nairobi, went further to say he was made clear to him that his own wife,Mary Njoki Ndiba, was plotting to eliminate him.
This comes against a backdrop of the brazen daytime shooting of Lawyer Stephen Chesang over property wrangles.
The late lawyer’s wife has since been detained in connection to her husbands death as sleuths piece up evidence to charge her.
Got wind of murder plot
He went on to reveal that he had learned of his wife’s ill-intentions through his sister-in-law Mary Njonjo.
“In 2013, she told my sister-in-law that she had resolved to have me dead so that she could own my house in Kileleshwa, a car and two other plots in the outskirts of Nairobi, I then ran away to save my life,” he disclosed.
Changed property ownership
Mr Kairo went on to inform the court that he had also learned that his spouse had fraudulently changed documents pertaining to his car and successfully managed to change the ownership details to reflect her own.
“I realized that my car had been stolen after my lawyer visited the Kenya Revenue Authorities and confirmed that it was now registered in her name, yet I had never authorized such an undertaking,” he divulged.
Wife denies ill motive
On her part, Ms Njoki was adamant that it was Kairo who had gifted her the vehicle and signed the relevant approval documents, a statement the husband vehemently denied.
The vehicle in question, KBJ 158M, was impounded by the police and kept at the Kilimani Police Station since their abrupt separation in 2013.
ID and PIN numbers
Mr Kairo, in his testimony, informed the court that he married the accused in December 2007, adding that since his escape, his wife’s lawyer wrote to him requesting for copies of his identity card and pin numbers, a request he declined.
Magistrate Ojoo directed that the case will be heard on June 19, 2019.
