Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s cousin and former Gem member of Parliament has come out guns blazing to defend deputy president William Ruto as well as bashing Siaya senator James Orengo for sponsoring impeachment motion against the DP.
During an interview at NTV on Wednesday, Midiwo insisted that the impeachment debate was misplaced, adding that Ruto should first be subjected to investigation agencies before such motions.
“What am saying, we are giving Orengo credit he does not deserve. For one to initiate impeachment proceedings, there must be an impropriety or criminality. I mean, no such process so far. Nobody has taken William Ruto to court, give him a break,” argued Midiwo.
At Citizen TV on Tuesday, Orengo said his plans were unstoppable, adding that Ruto has been linked to various scandals. He also argued that the DP has been sabotaging the president in the ongoing fight against corruption.
Mr Midiwo also accused ODM of dragging DP Ruto’s name in Ugenya parliamentary and due in April, arguing that the team is using the tag to unfairly block David Ochieng’ chances.
“How is William Ruto even important to Ugenya voters? This is just a scheme to drag the young man to non existent scandals just because Ruto is nowdays a punching bag. The young man has nothing to do with Ruto.”
ODM is facing stiff competition to clinch the seat which Chris Karan lost in a court process following Ochieng’ petition. The election could yet again test the party’s grip in Luo Nyanza.
Midiwo, a former close ally of Mr Odinga, lost his seat in 2017 having contested as an independent. He has also lost in ODM primaries. Since then, he no longer works with ODM.
