As Kenya and Uganda are still locked in a wrangle over the tiny Migingo Island in Lake Victoria, with both countries claiming its ownership, the visiting president of Uganda has been given a stun warning to relinquish the claims.

Rarieda member of Parliament Otiende Amollo wants Museveni to finally accept that the tiny island that has for long been a point of clash between the two nations is in Kenya, and is part of Kenyan territory.

He noted that the assurances being given by the government regarding the same are useless, and Museveni must also give a similar assurance.

“So, President Museveni is about to visit, and suddenly we get assurances about Migingo. Me thinks this is a rigmarole! Uganda to relinquish all claims on Migingo or nothing! Period!” said the MP in a tweet on Wednesday morning.

The wrangles have resulted in lamentations from Kenyans fishing around the island, some of whom have raised claims of being harassed by Ugandan forces manning the rock and the waters around it.

At times they have raised claims of being arrested, and their fishing gear and fish confiscated by Ugandan authorities.

Attempts to solve the stalemate which began during the reign of retired President Mwai Kibaki have been futile, despite the nation having a Cabinet Secretary handling matters Kenya’s relationships with her East African counterparts.

Museveni will be in the country for a two-day state visit.
