In Kenya, there are approximately 800 post office branches spread countrywide.

As such, one can send mail via these branches and the items sent are delivered to their corresponding post boxes within 24 hours if within the same locality or two days to the rest of the country.

To acquire a private letter box in Kenya, one must visit any of the nearby Posta Kenya branches and acquire an application form available over the counter.

This can be done anywhere between 8.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and 8.00am to 12.00pm on Saturdays.

Additionally, the application document can also be downloaded online from www.posta.co.ke.

There is just one form that fits individuals, companies and special corporate.

Attach a copy of the certificate of registration or ID/ Passport to the filled form and take it to your local post office.

Pay the applicable fees and collect your box keys.

Note: These charges are renewable annually.

Payment of new Letter boxes must be paid in cash at the outlet of issuance. However, for subsequent renewal fees, one can at any of the Posta Kenya outlets besides where your box is located.

After the payment, the information will be redirected to the office where your box is allocated.

One can make the annual payments for their letterboxes online using MPESA pay bill number 506500 for both Safaricom and Airtel subscribers.

You will be prompted to enter the private letter box number and the postcode separated by a dash, e.g. 200765-00100 as the account number.
Then enter the amount you wish to pay.

Remember you don’t have to pay the full amount all at once as you can pay it quarterly, half year or annual.

Posta Kenya Online Tracking

Posta Kenya offers shipment services as well, and when you are a Posta Kenya registered mail user, you have the advantage of tracking the location of your shipment online.

This is done by entering your shipment ID and clicking on the search imaged to get the tracking details for the shipment.

You can find the shipment ID on the receipt you were given while booking the shipment.

Once the shipment arrives and is delivered, you will receive an SMS/Email while in Kenya.

This tracking can also be conducted via the ‘My Post office’ portal for registered users only.
