The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has on Monday revealed the perpetrator accused of sexual abuse against pupils at Martyrs of Uganda School in Machakos county has been arrested by police.
KHRC has called on the Director of Public Prosecution, ODPP to push for immediate and speedy prosecution in the quest for justice for the abused victims.
Martyrs of Uganda children’s home in Machakos had been closed down following a court order after nine boys were allegedly sodomized by a cook.
KHRC had dispatched a team to investigate the matter and found credible reports of abuse against at least 9 students in the school.
The administration of the Martyrs of Uganda School have been faulted for not taking any active steps to address sexual violence in the school and did not offer meaningful support to at least one student who had reported abuse to the school.
.@PoliceKE, @NPSOfficial_KE and @ODPP_KE must expeditiously conclude investigations with a view to vigorously prosecuting the perpetrator in this case. Additionally, we recommend the investigation with a view of prosecuting them for obstructing justice in this case.

KHRC has also discovered a disappointing level of commitment to investigate the crime and arrest the perpetrator by Machakos Police Station.
” The fact that it has taken 5 weeks to arrest a serial perpetrator of sexual offenses against minors is testament to the slow progress of this case.” stated the statement in part.
