Real Madrid star opens about why he ‘slapped’ Messi on the face

Real Madrid youngster Sergio Reguilon made plenty of headlines in one of his first ever El Clasico appearances.

The talented left-back put in a solid performance to keep Lionel Messi quiet despite being on the losing side against arch rivals Barcelona .

But it was his animated on-field spat with Messi and Luis Suarez that put him in the headlines as he branded the Uruguayan “ugly” and called Messi a “flea”.

Reguilon is preparing to make his Spain Under 21 debut – and he has now broken his silence on what really happened at the Bernabeu as he took on two of the top stars in world football.

“You’re going at a thousand miles an hour in a Clásico,” he told Radio Onda Cero. “Really fired up, you say stuff, but look, it’s things that are left out on the pitch: the tension makes you say this stuff.”

It appears Reguilon has no issues with Messi despite their clash as he looks to continue building on his promising start to his senior career with Los Blancos.

He has hailed the support he’s received from fans – but he insists veteran Brazilian Marcelo is still the No.1 left-back despite recently relegating him to the bench.

He stated: “The effort put in can’t be denied and people see that, so they can’t rebuke you for that.

“Also, having been through the Academy they care about me.

“He’s (Marcelo) a really down to earth guy, I get on really well with him.

“He’s the starter in the team.”
