Corruption fights back: Uhuru’s morning anti-corruption tweet lands him in trouble

Kenyans are rife with speculations after an eraly morning tweet from President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly rubbed is ‘closest political ally’ the wrong way.

President Kenyatta’s Twitter handled was to later be ‘accessed by powerful individuals’ who were reportedly irked by the President’s statement only hours after deputy President William Ruto said the war on corruption is “targeted at me.”

Social media deactivation

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media accounts were deactivated on Friday morning at the request of State House, Nairobi.

Office of the President Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has confirmed the deactivation in a tweet.

“If you are corrupt we will fight you. You can be my brother or my sister or my closest political ally but if you are corrupt we will fight you,” President Kenyatta tweeted.

Nzioka Waita was to post another revealing statement suggesting the president’s detractors could have been responsible for hacking Kenyatta’s social media accounts

President Kenyatta is the most followed leader in Sub-Saharan Africa on Twitter with more than three million followers.

This is according to a study released last year and dubbed Twiplomacy by Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW), an international communications agency.
