Itumbi says ‘sorry’ for exposing Rachel Ruto to ridicule

On Wednesday Rachel Ruto was subjected to intensive critiques over what was termed as misplaced priorities. She was ridiculed for supplying detergent to hunger-stricken Turkana people who can not afford drinking water. The citizens wondered how Turkana residents would use the detergents if they cannot afford bathing water.

However, The State House digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has come out apologizing for sharing images showing Deputy President’s wife, Rachel Ruto, donating OMO detergent to starving Turkana residents.

Mr Itumbi shared the controversial pictures on Wednesday, March 20, as emotions swirled on social media regarding the dire drought situation in Turkana and Baringo counties.

“A donation by Mama Rachel Ruto in aid of fellow Kenyans facing hunger in Turkana and Baringo drought,” tweeted Mr. Itumbi, attaching pictures of Mrs. Ruto donating OMO.

“I apologise for images I shared here earlier. Mama Rachel Ruto was not in Turkana I relied on unverified images. This was my mistake and I am sorry. I have since deleted them. May the record reflect the true position and my apology too,” tweeted Mr Itumbi at 8:50pm Wednesday.

The former blogger’s apology drew mixed reactions online, with a bulk of the comments criticizing him for being “State puppet, who blindly tries to paint those in leadership, especially from the Jubilee wing, as caring and concerned people, even when they ‘are not’.” Here are some of the comments he received
