RICH CLUB: List of hundred-millionaire CSs Magoha is set to join

Nominated Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha is set to join the hundred millionaires’ club if his approval is effected.

Prof George Magoha- Sh 250 million

Prof Magoha disclosed his wealth is derived from Treasury bills, fixed cash deposit, rent, income from a Safaricom mast and royalties from sale of his autobiography.

“He estimated his financial net worth at Ksh250 million,”

“His sources of income during the calendar year preceding his nomination and the current calendar year comprise of continuous annual income from Treasury bills, fixed cash deposit, rent, income from Safaricom mast and royalties from continual sale of his autobiography,” Speaker Justin Muturi mentioned in a parliamentary report.

Simon Chelugui- Sh 796 Million

Mr Chelugui, a former director of the Betting Control and Licensing Board, estimated his net worth to be approximately Sh796 million comprising investments in real estate, movable assets and farming.

Mr Chelugui, who was born in Baringo County 46 years ago, holds a bachelor’s of commerce degree from University of Nairobi. He was first employed as finance and administration director at the Coffee Machinery Services in 1996 and was promoted to managing director in 2000.

Joe Mucheru- Sh 500 Million

Joe Mucheru,  ICT CS, revealed to the vetting committee that he had wealth amounting to Sh500 Million, with a deferred income (investments made yet to mature) of Sh267 Million.

Mucheru is the Google Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Ambassador who has excelled in the ICT field.

Charles Keter- Sh 352 Million

The immediate former Kericho Senator Charles Keter, who has been an MP for 10 years, puts his wealth at Sh352.8 Million.

Farida Karoney- Sh 200 million

Ms Farida Karoney (Lands) informed the committee that her net worth was Sh200 million. Ms Karoney, a former journalist and the chief operating officer Royal Media Services Ltd, told the the vetting committee that her investments were in shares, farming and real estate.

Keriako Tobiko- Sh 360 Million

In the details provided to the vetting committee, Mr Tobiko estimated his net worth to be Sh360 million comprising investments in real estate, agriculture and livestock.

In 2011, when Mr Tobiko was being vetted for the position of Director of Public Prosecutions, he told the House committee on Justice and Legal Affairs that he was worth Sh80 million as a lawyer in private practice.

Margaret Kobia – Sh 165 million

Public Service nominee Margaret Kobia informed the vetting committee that her net worth was approximately Sh165 million comprising expected future benefits from service gratuity and investments in real estate.

Peter Munya- Sh 264 Million

Mr Peter Munya (East Africa Community) told the committee that his total net worth was Sh264.1 million. The investments owned by the former Meru governor, said the report, were in form of real estate, agriculture and land.

Ukur Yattani

Former Wajir Governor Ukur Yattani, who has been nominated to be Labour CS, said his net worth amounted to Sh295 million with investments in transport, movable assets, real estate and livestock. He also informed the committee that he had complied with his tax obligations.
