Angered Kenyans Bash Lawmakers For Boycotting Drought Sitting Amid Increased Death Numbers

Angry Kenyans could not hide their dismay towards members of the National Assembly after they boycotted a sitting meant to discuss the dire drought situation.

Taking to social media, the citizens could not hide their rage especially given that earlier that day, the house had reasonable members while discussing something different.

The sitting was also chaired by a substitute speaker yet Justin Muturi had appeared in an earlier session discussing totally different things.

“And we paid 250K for each of those chairs. And some of these MPs have not made their maiden speech yet. Their excuse: there are so many of them that they don’t catch the Speaker’s eye. Where were they today?” Posed  Lilian Guantai.

Some users even questioned why the MPs were elected in such huge numbers and yet, in the recent passed, the quorum in the house never seems to be enough.

“Why do we need 300 of them if we can never have quorum,” posted another user.

“We need their numbers reduced to this, why do we need 200+ MPs,” expressed another user.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re officially on our own…we can kick them out and run this country for ourselves,” wrote Paul Machira Kiruma.

This comes at a time when drought has really hit the nation reportedly raising the death toll as a result of hunger to twenty one people.

Reports indicated that at least 12 counties including Turkana and Baringo were facing severe drought and that the situation would worsen in the coming weeks.

Here are some of the reactions;
