It is only in Kenya, where you can’t be allowed to rest in peace even in your death. I don’t know what happened to respecting the dead.

Kenyans have become so greedy that they can argue over who should bury a rich relative. Imagine keeping an 89 year old woman in the morgue for 5 years. Io si ni laana?

So this woman owned 1,000 acres of land in Embakasi, and some of her family members conspired to have all of it. They wanted to bury her without a postmortem or informing other relatives.

And that is how the case dragged on for 5 years. But the woman can now rest after a court order.

Yesterday chief magistrate Heston Nyaga ruled that the woman died of natural causes and was not murdered as alleged by some relatives.

“In conclusion, I find that there is nothing to convince me that the deceased’s death was suspicious. She died of natural causes. There is no one to be held culpable for her death,” Nyaga ruled.

Litha Kathumbi, a stepdaughter, had testified that the deceased lived in Embakasi where her father had a home and that she occasionally visited her.

During such a visit in 2013, the mother asked her to return another day but when she did so, she did not find her. She unsuccessfully looked for her before reporting the matter to the police. The police told her to be patient. She was later called by a Joyce Mukonyo and told the old lady had died at Kenyatta National Hospital.

“I visited the hospital and on checking her body, I discovered it had bruises on her right hand which showed that she had been tied up by a rope. Blood was oozing from the mouth,” Litha told court.
