ODM party members now demand Ruto to resign

A section of ODM members have come out in defence of their party leader Raila Odinga.

The legislators from Siaya County have challenged Deputy President William Ruto to resign “if he is tired of being part of the presidency.”

The legislators led by Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, accused Ruto of using his allies to constantly attack the institution of the presidency which he is part of.

“William Samoei Ruto has chosen to send his foot soldiers to attack the institution of the Presidency, in other words he is a pastor sending the congregation to attack the church,” Otiende said.

The Rarieda lawmaker argued that if the DP has lost trust in the presidency, then he should resign and pave way for another person.

Otiende Amollo made the remarks during an ODM campaign rally at Kolali trading center in Ugenya constituency where he also laughed off the Deputy President’s claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga was out to split the Jubilee party.

“Raila and the President Uhuru Kenyatta shook hands for the betterment of this nation, you cannot attack the handshake unless you do not mean well for this country,” Otiende said.

James Orengo

His sentiments were echoed by Siaya Senator James Orengo who said that it is high time the deputy president realised that he must respect the president as his boss.

“Just like Otiende has said, if Ruto has found the fire in the kitchen too hot the he better leave the kitchen,” Orengo said.

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo on the other hand encouraged the President to stay firm in the war against graft.

“We are challenging the President, do not be intimidated by thieves, as the President you are a symbol of our national unity,” Odhiambo said adding that, “ you have to stand out so that the public can trust and have confidence in your leadership, we will support you.”

Caleb Amisi

Saboti lawmaker Caleb Amisi has lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto over his frequent rants about President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reconciliation with opposition boss Raila Odinga.

The DP has hit the headlines over the last two weeks hitting out at the opposition boss alleging that he has used the handshake to wreak havoc in Jubilee Party.

Amisi while speaking to Radio Citizen on Sunday evening, advised the DP to dialogue with Uhuru other than besmirching Raila.

“He is part of the government and chairs cabinet sittings. He should take his concerns to the President with whom they are in office on the same ticket. It’s only this way that he can get his answers and not through insulting Raila,” said Amisi.

The Saboti MP also rubbished claims from Ruto’s camp that the handshake has done more harm than good, noting that it has been of great benefit to the nation.

Speaking in the company of the DP in West Pokot on Saturday, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said that the truce has further divided the nation.

However, Amisi has dismissed the claims.

“The nation was in a bad state before the two leaders reconciled but we can now see changes. People are working, things are calm and the economy is rising. These are all benefits of the handshake,” he added.
