Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid return feels like manna from heaven for the English tabloids.

Real Madrid have virtually zero chance of winning anything this season.

Ajax dumped Los Blancos out of the Champions League, while Barcelona turfed them out of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid are third in the Spanish top flight in a disappointing league campaign.

With that as the background, Zidane is now expected to oversee a major period of transition at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen

The big story for the Star on Sunday is that Christian Eriksen may leave Tottenham for Madrid.

Claims that Eriksen may leave Spurs have been around for months.

The Danish midfielder is under contract with Tottenham until 2020.

On Sunday, the Star report the following:

Tottenham want a world-record shattering £200million for midfield star Christian Eriksen if Real Madrid come calling in the summer.

(Spurs) are now resigned to the fact that they are going to have to sell him with just over one year left on his current contract.

Should this deal happen, Tottenham fans will be instantly reminded of Luka Modric’s switch from Spurs to Madrid back in 2012.

Man United’s David De Gea

Over in the Mirror on Sunday, they float the suggestion that David De Gea may leave Man United for Madrid.

De Gea’s contract situation at Old Trafford has focused attentions for some time too.

The Spaniard’s Manchester United contract will run out in July of 2020. That’s lead to the Mirror reporting the following:

Manchester United face a new fight to keep David de Gea following Zinedine Zidane’s return as Real Madrid boss.

Old Trafford bosses are currently in talks with the player over a new £350,000-a-week deal having triggered their option to extend his present contract until 2020 and are confident that he will sign eventually, but news of Madrid’s renewed interest will spook them.

The Mirror suggest Real Madrid will offer Man United 75 million pounds for De Gea.

Is that really enough to convince United to sell?
