9 Man Gor Mahia Slay the Petro Atletico Dragon to Make Continental History

Defending Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia survived a Petrol De Atletico Scare to book a quarterfinals spot in this years edition of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Gor Mahia’s hopes of making history seem to have been dented in the first half after Ernest Wendo saw Red in the 36th minute for a high booted challenge into the waist of a Petro Atletico player.

Petro De Atletico enjoyed a good possession of the ball but failed to score in the first half.

Kogallo’s first half came from bad to worse as Coach Hassan Oktay was sent to the stands after an ugly confrontation with the referee.

The Match would end on a barren draw in the first half with both teams coming back in the second half with renewed energy to try kill the match early.

Things would however go Gor Mahia’s way in the 55th minute when Bonface Omondi was brought down in the Petro Atletico box with the referee awarding Gor Mahia a Penalty which was converted by the man himself Jaques Tuyisenge in the 58th Minute.

Both teams would then create chances but none of them converted them to goals.

Gor Mahia’s dreams looked to have been shattered in the 75th minute when defender Shafik Batambuze was shown a second yellow card and with it his marching orders for an early shower.

Gor Mahia went down to 9 men with a crucial 1-0 lead to defend , something they did to the last minute to all but book a quarterfinals spot in this years CAF Confederations CUP for the first time in the Club’s history.

Gor Mahia will have their lovely fans to thank for an overwhelming support at the Kasarani Stadium.

The Fans made the tense match lively as they sang songs of praises to the Gor Mahia team to lift the Spirits of the Players who rewarded them for their faith with another great home performance in the Continental Showpiece.
