Man plans to remove ‘political’ David Maraga from office

Chief Justice David Maraga is on the spot after a man filed a petition seeking his removal from office.

The man, Yussuf Ibrahim Dimbil, has outlined why he thinks Maraga should be removed.

The man filed the petition at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), citing gross violation of the Constitution by the Chief Justice.

Ibrahim went ahead to list a number of offenses that he believes were sufficient to oust Maraga from the public office.

He accused Maraga of attending political rallies, employing people from one ethnic group to the judiciary and making utterances that are unconstitutional.

The man added that in some instances, the Chief Justice had made reckless political statements without caring about the Independence of the Judiciary.

Ibrahim added that Maraga presided over the presidential election petition with a relative as one of the lawyers in the matter.

“Brian Onderi, who was on the record together with other advocates for the petitioner, is the nephew of the Chief Justice,” read the petition in part.

This comes days after president Uhuru Kenyatta alongside William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga visited Kisii where they launched a cancer center and was welcomed by Chief Justice David Maraga.

Many Kenyans raised their concerns saying that the friendship between the government and David Maraga could bear injustices in favor of the government.
