Former club president and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer backs Klopp as next Bayern manager

Jurgen Klopp, despite his links to Borussia Dortmund, should become Bayern Munich manager one day, according to Franz Beckenbauer.

Klopp’s Liverpool dumped Bayern out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage this week, winning 3-1 in Munich.

Former Bayern president Beckenbauer feels Klopp – who won two Bundesliga titles in charge of their rivals Dortmund – would be an ideal fit for the club.

Beckenbauer told Sky Germany: ‘Jurgen Klopp at Bayern. That would be the highlight. Jurgen was the one who taught the Germans how to play football quickly.’

Klopp has made a huge impression at Liverpool since moving to English football in 2015, and guided the Reds to the Champions League final last season.

Liverpool are currently going toe to toe with Manchester City for the Premier League title, while Klopp is under contract at Anfield until 2022.

Since Klopp led Dortmund to the Bundesliga title in 2012, Bayern have won each of the last six championships with relative ease.

However they are currently being pushed all the way by Dortmund this season, and their elimination from the Champions League has piled further pressure on manager Niko Kovac.

Kovac, who only took over Bayern in the summer, has been heavily tipped to leave the club in the near future, with a bigger name to replace him in the managerial hot seat.
