DPP Noordin Hajji regrets one year into tough job

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji regrets something about him, a year after taking on the job of having to run after dangerous influential people.

Haji, who was a guest at Citizen TV‘s JKLive hosted by Jeff Koinange, spoke lightly on the cons of his job as he gave an update on the fight against corruption.

“…and this job of yours that you took up, it is going to be a year next month, any regrets?” Jeff posed.

“No, apart from my grey hair,” the 45-year-old Haji responded before the two burst into laughter.

Jeff also asked the DPP whether he feared for his life, because of going after high profile individuals accused of graft but Haji responded that he actually felt very safe amongst Kenyans.

Later during the interview, the Haji disclosed that his job entailed a lot of death threats as he was in constant conflict with high-level state officials.

“I live like an already dead man, I fear nothing or no one whatsoever,” he asserted.

The decorated journalist also reminded the DPP, that when his father, Yusuf Haji was a DC in Jeff’s home town of Kiambu, they feared him.

“When you heard Yusuf Haji, you ran,” he quipped.

Haji disclosed that together with his eight siblings, they feared their old man as well.

They both then delved into more serious discussions about Haji who gave an update of corruption cases in court.

The DPP had brought along a file that contained the aggregated corruption numbers based on ethnic lines in response to accusations by some political factions that his office was targeting a particular tribe.

“I don’t want it to look like I’m getting this numbers from my head, these are our statistics of accused persons by ethnic tribes,” he disclosed.
