Cheslea ace reveals when he will retire

David Luiz reveals the ONLY thing that can stop him from playing football

Chelsea central defender David Luiz has said that he can only stop playing football if he falls out of love with the game. The Brazilian has also revealed that he expects to sign a new contract with the London club. Luiz says that he thinks he will be at Chelsea next season, despite his current deal expiring this summer.

According to The Evening Standard, talks between Luiz and Chelsea have been ongoing for a number of months. Chelsea have a rule which states that players over the age of 30 cannot be offered new contracts lasting more than an extra year, which Luiz took an issue with.

However, it appears as though a compromise has been made and Luiz is set to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club. Speaking to The Evening Standard, Luiz said this when asked if he will sign a new deal:

“I think so. We are talking with the club. Everybody knows I love this club, I feel comfortable here and am happy here. I am doing my job very well so I think a lot is going to happen. I have the job best job in the world so I have to be motivated every single day. I love football, if I didn’t love football I would not be playing anymore.”

Luiz has been a mainstay at the heart of Maurizio Sarri’s defence this season, after being frozen out in the last campaign under Antonio Conte.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has said that he understands Chelsea fans’ want for Callum Hudson-Odoi to play regularly, but he has urged the teenager to take his chances when they come. The former Chelsea star has admitted he would ‘love’ to see Callum Hudson-Odoi stay at Stamford Bridge but insists the youngster must continue his progress at the club.

Bayern Munich failed with four bids for the winger in January and the 18-year-old handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to the Allianz Arena. Hudson-Odoi has less than 18 months to run on his existing deal at Stamford Bridge and the club will have little choice but to cash in if he intimates this summer that he will not sign an extension.

Lampard, though, believes Hudson-Odoi is at the best club for his development and says he’d love to see the winger stay at the club.

‘Firstly, I’d love him to stay at Chelsea,’ said Lampard. ‘He needs to be doing everything to get in that team. Is he working hard and is he developing every day in training and trying to improve?

‘I don’t know him that well but I’m sure that’s the standard at Chelsea he’s going by himself. Every minute he gets on the pitch he needs to be doing everything he can I understand Chelsea fans want to see more of him and he has to do everything he can to give himself the chance of minutes.

‘I think at the end of the season he will look back and think ‘what can I do with my career?. It’s a mad one because a young English player at Chelsea at that age then you really want him to sign that long-term contract.’
