If there is one thing we can learn from popular comedian Eric Omondi after his debacle on his bet, it is that we shouldn’t always count our chickens before they hatch.

Erico also known as Eric Omondi may have bitten off more than he could chew this past week.  The notorious bet posted on Sunday (10.3.2019) would have Omondi shave his hair and give out his fiancée Chantal Grazzioli to businessman Joe Muchiri if Arsenal beat Manchester United. With the Arsenal-Manchester United league game not ending in his favor, Omondi faced lots of ridicule as he was forced to eat his words as Kenyans on Tweet continued to jeer and mock the comic. Sadly, fans would not let him leave down the bet; pressuring the funnyman to be a man of his word.

But it seems that Omondi learned a few things about gambling that could resonate with every youth:

1. Don’t make a bet you are not prepared to lose.

Gambling is risky business, it might be fun at the time but it has serious repercussions. It is important to only bet on something you are prepared to lose. Omondi bet that he would give away his soon-to-be wife when in reality it is clear that he would not be willing to give his fiance Chantal to the notoriously vulgar Muchiri. And it also did not help that the self-titled ‘real-ionaire’ continued to taunt the couple online. If there is one important factor to remember about betting, always remember there is a chance you could lose.

2Always do your homework.

It is vital to be aware of the opponent you are up against, the type of game you are playing and the expected outcomes. The odds may not always lie in your favor, so do your best to do some research to prepare yourself appropriately. Your passion and zeal may not always carry the day. What are the previous scoring margins, who is likely to feature on the line-up and what are the most important factors to the game? Knowledge is power, the Arsenal-Man United weekender held a 2-2 odds, but the game ended 2-0. Always be prepped for the unpredictable.

3Do not take it too seriously.

A friendly bet between friends should remain simple and fun. Making it a serious, high-stakes affair could eliminate the fun element and worst still; it could break a friendship. It is important to consider what the wager is; and whether it is worth the effort, that’s why it is recommended to only bet what you are prepared to lose.

4. Don’t bet at all.

If you can’t handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Betting has some serious consequences and it best avoided altogether. Reconsider what your motivations are for betting and you will soon realize that that quick cash comes as easily as you get it.
