Private clinics near Machakos Gov’t health facilities given ultimatum to close or relocate

Private clinics and hospitals near Machakos Gov’t health facilities have today been issued with an ultimatum to close or relocate by 31st May 2019.

This comes after a statement which was today made public by the Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua.

Mutua noted that the law and regulations are clear on the issue of proximity of private health provision clinics, pharmacies, laboratories etc to a health facility.

He also indicated that no private hospitals and clinics, private pharmacy private lab etc should operate within 1 (one) kilometer of a Machakos County health facility.

The Machakos governor stated that buildings housing private health provision facilities within a kilometer of a government health institution, will be boarded and business permits cancelled.

Alfred Mutua today gave these remarks as he presided over the opening of the Matuu Operation Theatre.

This move by the Machakos Governor is in line to making changes to
streamline health provision in Machakos County.

Alfred Mutua also made it clear that any Machakos health worker who wishes to own or work in a private clinic must, as per national regulations, obtain a letter of No Objection from my Government. They then have to obtain a permit from the medical board.

“A health worker can only work at a private clinic when not rostered or needed to work at our facility. Any health worker who absconds duty will be terminated from employment’ he added

The Governor gave these tough warning maintaining that his intention is making sure that the people of Machakos can easily access proper health care and receive outstanding universal health care.
