Why Controversial UFC Superstar Conor McGregor was arrested by police during his holiday

Controversial UFC Superstar never fails to raise eye brows wherever he goes, which at given times has put him into troubles more so when he’s having a fight ahead of him and being a public figure.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor was arrested outside a Miami Beach hotel while in the US to celebrate his mum’s 60th birthday.

McGregor was held on $12,500 (£944) bond at Miami-Dade County’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

According to a Miami Beach police spokesman, McGregor is being charged with strong armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

It’s claimed that the Irishman smashed the phone of a fan at 5am on Monday after he had been taking photos of McGregor.

Police say the altercation took place outside the nightclub Liv – housed in the Fontainebleu hotel. It’s alleged that McGregor slapped the phone out of his victim’s hand, before stomping on it.

He then picked up the $1,000 (£755) phone and walked away with it, according to police.

The incident was caught on surveillance video and while McGregor was not arrested at the scene, he was tracked down at a Miami Beach house later on in the day.

He was booked at Miami-Dade jail on Monday night.McGregor is currently in Florida as he prepares for his UFC comeback, joined by girlfriend Dee Devlin and son, Conor Jr.

The incident comes a matter of days after McGregor completed his probation following his attack on a bus at a UFC event in Brooklyn, New York, last year.

The former UFC champion avoided a prison term but had to complete community service at churches in Brooklyn while also attending anger management classes; had McGregor violated his probation, he could have faced time behind bars.

McGregor found it “humbling” to do manual labour, according to Pastor Clive Neil at the Bedford Central Church, where the fighter worked from Monday through Friday last week.

“He kept on using that word ‘humbling’,” the pastor said.

“He was doing physical work vacuuming, mopping, moving boxes, moving supplies, putting out the garbage and so forth.

“He was quite patient in rubbing down the brass, polishing with spray and a cloth. He has enough strength in his muscles to do that.”

The incident is just the latest in a growing list for the controversial 30-year-old star. In October, the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended McGregor for six months after he was involved in a post-fight brawl.

Now he is set to return to the Octagon, potentially to go toe-to-toe for a third time with Nate Diaz. The fighter has jetted his entire family out to the States to celebrate his mum Margaret’s 60th birthday.
