According to Marca and footage captured by El Dia Despues on Movistar Plus, Leo Messi asked the referee Mario Melero Lopez to ignore a controversial episode in Rayo Vallecano’s penalty box.
Messi fell down after a collision with an opponent but then quickly told Lopez to continue the game without consulting with his colleagues in the VAR room. “Don’t look at it [with VAR],” said Messi. “Let’s go, let’s go.”
The referee thanked Messi for his honesty:
The Argentinean forward still managed to score a goal from the spot against Rayo as Nelson Semedo was brought down in the opponents’ box in the second half. Leo calmly converted the penalty bringing Barcelona the three points that allowed them to restore their seven-point lead over Atletico Madrid.
Is there a more noble player than Messi?
