CS Kiunjuri accompanies Odinga to Kisumu

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mwangi Kiunjuri accompanied the AU Envoy to Kisumu where he led a stakeholders meeting to chart a way forward following the ailing sugar industry.

At the Kisumu’s Kondele roundabout, Odinga stopped to address hundreds of residents on various issues focusing majorly on the March 09, 2018 handshake that saw him forge a working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

After a brief address, Odinga gave CS Kiunjuri the microphone so that he addresses members of the public.

“Unajua kama Baba ameongea, sisi watu wa mkono tunanyamaza,” said Kiunjuri after being handed the microphone.

The stakeholders meeting held at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel came up with a number of resolutions among them having the privatization commission identify strategic partners in the next 120 days.

Also, it was resolved that county governments are to represent the interests of farmers in matters of privatisation and a special committee be set up by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Irrigation to come up with a revival strategy for the revitalization of Mumias Sugar Company.

The Sugar task force formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta led by Council of Governor’s chair Wycliffe Oparanya was given 14 days to complete and compile their report.
