Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come to the rescue of his Lion statue in Nairobi that was criticised byNairobians for its structure.

The ’embarrassing’ lion statue that was erected on Nairobi’s University Way roundabout in the ongoing efforts to make the city look beautiful has been replaced by a more ‘decent’ Lion King.

Sonko argued that making a statue takes time and effort and the first one was just a caricature of the final statue.

” Good things take much time and often involve a very elaborate process. The mounting and finishing of such a Statue had to be taken through different artistic steps towards the final artwork by our local artists from Nairobi. Many of my lovely critics missed out for not knowing what it takes to plan, design, make and mount a life-size statue from start to finish,” read Sonko’s long message in part.

Sonko went ahead on saying that the statue is only 75% of the beautification as the ground still needs flowers and trees.

” Even after the installation of the statue, more remains to be done including planting of green ground cover, beautiful attractive tree seedings and flowers bringing everything to life. As we speak, the said statue is only 75% done,” he added.

Sonko could not miss bragging a little bit as he pointed out that the beautification was his idea and no public funds are being used for the designs.
