DCI George Kinoti says there were many grey issues in the statement recorded by Treasury boss Henry Rotich, forcing him to reappear on Thursday for the third time.

Mr Rotich has been a regular visitor to the DCI offices for the better part of this week and on Tuesday was grilled for a record 12 hours over the payments made for construction of Kimwarer and Aror dams in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

And according to the Nation, Rotich was tasked to explain why he had to make Sh7 billion payment despite the fact that the Italian firm had not started doing the job.

“I went through the statement and I realised that we needed him back to shed light on some issues. That is why he is with us here,” said Mr Kinoti.

“We are dealing with several companies with different directors. That is why we are going through this methodically and clinically. But the net is getting wide,” Mr Kinoti said on the progress of investigations.

Already, the DCI has sort help from both the Italian and British governments after it emerged that most of the payments were wired to the accounts in those nations.

So controversial has been the scandal that Mr Rotich is now fighting to keep his job, with the allegations coming amid intensive fight against graft, spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We are no longer dealing with domestic but international organised crime,” said the DCI head.
