The Tuesday blaze is reported to have started around 8am and took more than five hours to put out.

According to residents, the fire started from one of the houses after the owner left a kerosene stove on before it exploded.

“The fire spread quickly due to the intense wind. We were unable to salvage belongings due to poor accessibility,” a resident John Omondi was quoted by a local publication.

Visiting the site, Wanyonyi called on the National government to hasten the implementation of affordable housing, especially at informal settlements.

“Such incidences confirm the need for the government to put up affordable and decent houses in slum areas for easy access when disaster strikes,” he stated.
