US embassy issues alert over demonstations in Nairobi

The US Embassy Kenya has warned its personnel to beware of ongoing protests in Nairobi on Friday 8th.

According to the embassy, Kenyan organizers have announced two marches to take place on March 8, 2019, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  One march is in support of women’s rights, while the other is to protest corruption. 

Organizers claim there will be approximately 100,000 demonstrators attending the anti-corruption event.

The march will commence at Freedom Corner and end at the Supreme Court building. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris is expected to participate in the protest. 

The participants’ activities that commenced at 8am will be around Parliament road and Harambee Avenue. 

The Embassy has directed its personnel to avoid the protest areas and monitor local media for updates. 

Those that will be unexpectedly caught up in the vicinity of the protests have been advised to exercise caution and to call the Embassy for assistance.
