University student found dead in room while playing loud music

A third year student from Masinde Muliro University was found dead in a rental house at Kefinco Estate in Kakamega County.

According to neighbours, the 25- year- old who hails from Kericho County has been ailing for some time and they had informed his parents to come and take him to hospital before he died.

Varsity Public Relations Director Dr. Lydia Anyonje said the deceased, Peter Kamotho Kamau was a third year student undertaking Bachelor of Commerce Finance.

“The victim had travelled to his residential place on Tuesday before he died on Wednesday.  His parents have confirmed that he had mild stroke,” Anyonje said.

leader Evans Oyatoh said they learned the death of their colleague through the landlord. He said the landlord noticed the student was not coming out of the room and loud music was playing. He then alerted another student who resides there to check on him.

“When he opened the door they found him lying on his bed dead. They informed the police, MMUST security team and his parents who confirmed that he was unwell,” he said.

Kakamega South police boss Joseph Chebii said police have launched investigation to determine the cause of his death.The body of the deceased was moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital awaiting post mortem.

“We are waiting for postmortem result to determine how the victim died,” he said.
