Revealed! What almost cost Real Madrid’s Captain Sergio Ramos his career

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and club president Florentino Perez had a confrontation in the Santiago Bernabeu locker room after the 4-1 humbling inflicted by Ajax on Wednesday.

Having been hit with a two-game ban by UEFA for deliberately getting himself a yellow card in the first, Ramos was suspended for one of the worst defeats in their history.

Erik ten Hag’s inexperienced Ajax side deservedly secured a place in the quarter-finals thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone.

Ramos watched on from the stands – his reactions being captured as part of an Amazon documentary on the former Sevilla defender.

Fuming with how the holders had been embarrassed on their own turf, Perez is said to have told the players that they were to blame for the mess Real find themselves in.

However, Ramos was quick to reply that the squad had stressed the needed of signing a striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals in the summer.

He also told Perez that it isn’t just the players at fault and Perez ended up threatening to get rid of the Spaniard as things escalated.

Then, Ramos is reported to have said, “Pay me up and I’ll go,” – meaning that the rest of his contract would need to be paid up if he was to be kicked out.

Ramos also continued, saying: “I’ve given everything and busted a gut for this badge, for this club and even for you.”

Perez told the players that they were to blame for what was happening, but Ramos told the president that they’d warned him during the summer of the need to sign a striker. The whole Real squad were witnesses to the fiery encounter, which only adds to the dismal situation Real find themselves in.
