Ferdinand: Mbappe is the Next Big Thing in Football

Ferdinand identifies the next great footballer after Ronaldo, Messi

Rio Ferdinand has identified the next greatesr footballer after Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Ferdinand believes that PSG’S Kyllian Mbappe as the future’s greatest footballer after the retirement of Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Mbappe, 20, has already scored 50 goals in 76 appearances for PSG and won the Ligue 1 title in his debut season after joining the capital club from Monaco. He also bagged the World Cup trophy in Russia with the Les Bleus.

“We have been lucky to witness the brilliance of Messi and Ronaldo in the last few years. But their incredible careers will soon come to an end and Mbappe is the most likely player to fill the void they will leave behind at the top of the game. It looked like Neymar would be the man when he was coming through at Barcelona and then made the world record move to PSG, but Mbappe is moving ahead of him in my view.” Ferdinand told The Daily Star.

Mbappe did not help PSG progress to the Champions League quarter-finals after they were beaten at home by Manchester United. They were winners in the first leg and indeed Mbappe was on the scoresheet in the 2-0 encounter at Old Trafford. The French champions went down 3-1 at home. Ferdinand feels that his pace and the fear he puts on his opponents would make him a great footballer.

“He is on another level when you see the pace he has and has become virtually unstoppable when he is at his best. You could see the Manchester United defenders looking worried every time Mbappe got the ball at Old Trafford a couple of weeks back and that is what he can do to you… put fear into the opposition. If he continues to develop and prove he can do it season after season, winning big trophies and making the difference in the games that matter, he can be the man to take over from Messi and Ronaldo.” Ferdinand concluded.
