It is not my nature to comment on church business but my mind is now open to it.
I was born and raised Adventist. I no longer go to church every Saturday and I don’t see myself as far off spiritually. In other words, I’ve developed a personal relationship with God!
Which brings me to the gist of the current matter. A woman whose son was healed by Prophet Owuor left everything to ‘serve the lord’ (or serve Owuor) and she put a number of her properties under administrative care of a fellow church goer. The family of this woman claims she’s been brainwashed.
Now, I’ll be honest with you. All churches give a dose of brainwashing concoction! My SDA church for ages made us not eat so many foods it was possible someday we would starve!
The other darker history of the Adventist Church in Kenya is that much of its first half a century led to massive illiteracy and ignorance as SDAs never took education seriously (after all Jesus had just entered the holy of hollies and the world was ending). It is no wonder South Nyanza – the bedrock of the Adventist Church – trailed other regions in ‘wokeness’.
The Catholic Church is still a hotbed of child sexual molestation. Celibacy has failed to stop erections. Priests are having sex like crazy. Nuns suffer, but children suffer more, especially the boys!
Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Booom!! Bodies scattered all over. The mad men of Islam continue with Jihad, all believing it is Allah’s call. I don’t want to go further than this…lest this wall is blown up!
Owuor’s Church – Repentance and Holiness Ministry – is still a very young church. It’s current woes are as a result of rapid expansion and the growth of the laity.
Owuor is to his followers what Ellen G White is to Adventists or the Papacy to Catholics. But unlike Adventists or Catholics, Owuor’s current adherents are grappling with the challenges of mainstreaming a nascent denomination.
All religions often make mistakes. One of the most powerful exchanges in the Christian history occurred between Steele, a Protestant, and the Pope. In dedication, Steele tells the Pope, that “the only difference between our Churches in their opinions of the certainty of their doctrines is, the Church of Rome is infallible and the Church of England is never in the wrong”.
I am willing to give Owuor’s Church two thousand years, and a day more!
