How Ruto’s idea of referendum has been dumped by governors and instead chose Raila’s

The Deputy President William Ruto has been betrayed by governors despite giving them the final word at the close of the 6th Devolution conference which was held in Kirinyaga.

Instead the governors are picking Hon Raila Odinga’s side whom DP Ruto described as a master of deceit.

According to the governors’ council, there is a need to trim the powers of the president to ensure better service delivery.

The county bosses have advocated for the creation of the post of prime minister and two deputies.

Led by Governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), the leaders on Wednesday said that the creation of these posts will ensure better leadership is realised in the long run.

They argued that the current constitution gives the Head of State a lot of power, a situation that has affected service delivery because of the chaos witnessed in elections.

They two spoke during the sixth Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County.

“We want to avoid a situation where the winner takes all so that peace can prevail in our country,” said Murungi, as quoted by the Nation.

They noted that the time to amend the constitution is now, arguing that Kenyans are not fully represented in top posts and the creation of the positions will ensure the nation realises development.

On his part, opposition chief Raila Odinga argued that the country should adopt the rejected Bomas draft Constitution.

Raila, who has vowed to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta until he completes his second and final term in office, has been proposing for the reduction of the number of counties in the nation. He believes some of them are too tiny to stand on their own.
