Government to sell another firm

The Ministry of Agriculture has revealed its plans to sell Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) to a private investor. 

While Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri said that the plan is well-intended and it will improve the performance of the firm. He also said that the ministry has plans to set up and task force that will oversee the process of privatization.

“We are going to privatise Kenya Meat Commission. We are in the process and we are setting up a task force next week,” said Mr Kiunjuri,

The move has been backed by Livestock Principle Secretary Harry Kimtai who said that the privatization of the firm will make it more productive as well as economically viable. 

He noted that the nation has four slaughterhouses and there are plans to construct four more in different parts. Kimtai  insisted that the government has good plans for the farmers in this sector.

The change in management has already elicited mixed reactions from leaders.
