PSG goalie Gigi Buffon screwed up massively on the half hour.

With the scores level at 1-1, the legendary Italian keeper gifted Man United a second goal in Paris.

Marcus Rashford had a pop on the PSG goal from distance, however Buffon never looked like he’d be beaten from far out.

However instead of routinely catching the ball, Buffon slipped up.

After the ball bounced just before reaching Buffon, the PSG goalie allowed the ball to escape his grasp.

Like a flash, Romelu Lukaku pounced to score his second of the game.

Lukaku has now scored six goals in his last three Man United outings.

Impact on Man United & David de Gea

In the Times on Thursday, journalist Paul Hirst issues a warning about the impact of Buffon’s mistake against Man United.

As has been documented for months, David de Gea is out of contract at Old Trafford in the near future.

Man United have already triggered a one-year extension in de Gea’s existing deal to keep the Spaniard in Manchester until 2020.

Regarding a longer-term deal, de Gea is reportedly seeking a major pay-hike from the Red Devils.

Could PSG now offer the keeper the financial package he wants? Paul Hirst reports:

Gianluigi Buffon’s error was a blessing for Solskjaer in that it handed his team a very early lead, but it may also end up hurting United given the state of contract talks with their own goalkeeper.

United are yet to agree a new deal with David de Gea, who is out of contract in the summer of 2020 and PSG would have no trouble paying him the £350,000 per week wage that he is demanding. Buffon, 41, is out of contract in June.

Thomas Tuchel, the PSG head coach, has been rotating Buffon and Alphonse Areola, 26, in the league this season. De Gea is an upgrade on both of them and rarely makes errors like Buffon did last night.
