Chelsea’s Willian could be set to benefit from an injury to Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, with Los Blancos confirming this week he’s torn a ligament.
Vinicius has been a sensation at the Bernabeu this season.
After being brought into the first team early on in the season, the youngster has gone from strength to strength and has become a key player in just his first season at the club.
However, his season could be over after he suffered an injury recently.
Vinicius went down during the Champions League loss to Ajax on Tuesday with the club later confirming the extent of his injury.
Not only does his injury affect Real Madrid, it affects the Brazil national team.
Vinicius first call-up cut short
That is because Vinicius was handed his first call-up for the Brazil first team last week.
That would be have been big news for the youngster but with his injury, it is almost certain he will miss the international break.
Though, that opens up another spot for Tite’s squad.
Willian was a surprise omission from the Brazil squad when it was first announced.
Thankfully for Chelsea star Willian, he is among three players who could now be called up as a result of Vinicius.
Brazil boss Tite is supposedly deciding between Palmeiras’ Dudu, Ajax’s David Neres and Chelsea’s Willian according to Globo.
While getting in the squad due to an injury isn’t ideal, it’s better to be called up than not at all.
So with that, Willian could benefit from Vinicius’ injury, but he will have to take his chance in the squad if he’s to stay there next time around.
