Real Madrid are planning to re-appoint Jose Mourinho as their manager in the coming weeks, with the controversial Portuguese already handed president Florentino Perez a six-man summer shopping list, according to fanciful reports in the Spanish media. Mourinho’s name was chanted by disgruntled supporters outside the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening after Real’s three-time defence of the Champions League came to a shuddering halt during a shock 4-1 at home by Dutch outfit Ajax.
The result not only sent shockwaves around Europe, it also more than likely signalled Santiago Solari’s hopes of retaining the job beyond the end of the season, with Real seemingly having seen three trophy hopes ended in the space of seven days.
Now, according to Don Balon, Real president Perez is ready to call time on Solari’s reign imminently and re-appoint Mourinho, who has been out of work since his dismissal at Manchester United in December. The controversial Spanish outlet even claims Mourinho has got as far as handing Perez a six-man shopping list this summer in order to return Real to the summit of European football, with Alex Sandro, Eder Militao, Christian Eriksen, N’Golo Kante and Harry Kane the names in question as part of a €550million spree.Interestingly, both Porto defender Militao and Juve full-back Sandro were both reported targets for United under Mourinho’s tenure.
It’s also claimed Real plan to part fund the signings after Mourinho advised Perez to offload the likes of Gareth Bale, Nacho, Jesus Vallejo, Karim Benzema and Marcelo to make room for the new arrivals, while one of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos could also be shown the door. Mourinho has been pretty vocal about returning to football in recent weeks and even dropped a hint about Real Madrid earlier this week. And it seems his wish may be soon about to come true if Real do, in fact, call time on Solari’s reign.
