KAWU secretary general Moses Ndiema arrested over th ongoing strike

KENYA AVIATION Workers Union secretary-general Moses Ndiema has been arrested over ongoing strike.

Six staffs from KQ and KAA hurt as anti-riot break up demos which erupted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

General Service Unit (GSU) officers were deployed to the airport to combat striking workers who were said to have engaged the police in running battles.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) Secretary-General Moses Ndiema was arrested as six Kenya Airways (KQ) worker was seriously injured as the GSU officers lobbed teargas on the workers.

Reports also indicated that the status of JKIA had since been downgraded from Category 1 aside from having affected operations at Mombasa and Kisumu.

Kenya Airways issued a statement asking travelers who had flights scheduled for Wednesday from 11 a.m. not to go to the airport.

“Further to the strike by KAWU members, we expect disruptions on flights.

“Customers on flights after 11am are advised not to come to the airport until further communication is shared. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Kenya Airways advised.

Workers went on strike over the pending KAA-KQ merger as well as what they decried to be unfair remuneration.

“These people are here to loot. Why duplicate services that are already being offered by Kenyans,” Mr Ndiema stated earlier.
