Form four student drowns to death in Masinga

A Form Four student and KCSE candidate from Kithyoko secondary school has died after drowning in Masinga, Machakos County.

The deceased drowned while swimming in Kithyoko river on Monday.

Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Daniel Muthoka said the boy was swimming with one of his friends when the tragedy struck.

“I was called on Monday evening and informed that a male Form Four student had drowned in Kithyoko river,” Muthoka said.

Muthoka said that the deceased’s friend made a distress call when the latter started drowning.

Muthoka confirmed that by the time locals responded to the distress call, the boy had already drowned to death.

He said the boys opted for swimming on their way to school on the fateful day.

“The survivor said they had resolved to swim and later proceed  to school,” Muthoka added.

The body was moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary.

Muthoka urged parents to ensure that they know their children’s whereabouts to avoid recurrence of such incidences.
