Former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has taken time out to reflect on his sour relationship with Paul Pogba in the latter days of his tenure as manager at the club. Both Pogba and Mourinho were involved in a number of run-ins that saw the French midfielder dropped to the bench.

Mourinho further stripped the former Juventus star the captaincy role at the club before branding him “the virus” in the United squad. However, months after his sack from the club, the Portuguese tactician has owned up and admitted he failed to get the best out of the midfielder.

Speaking on beIN Sports, Mourinho further suggested he did not have the right chemistry with the Frenchman, acknowledging that he now needs to improve how he manages players he is not in good books with.

“It’s the personality, the way of being, the way of thinking, you have more chemistry, empathy and chemistry,” Mourinho told beIN Sports. “And that’s why some players are phenomenal with one manager and with another not so good. It’s chemistry,” he added. Since his departure, Pogba has been in terrific form, bagging nine goals and seven assists in 15 appearances.

Mourinho was replaced at Old Trafford by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December on interim capacity.
