EACC gives Ruto allies bitter pills to swallow

Fight against graft is part of what President Uhuru Kenyatta has tightened to achieve his legacy come 2022. But will he achieve it if the issue continues being politicised? Over a long period of time, Politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have always complained that the war targets their key man, but do you think this is the case?

Some of the legislators have even claimed that The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been targeting individuals allied to Ruto. However, the anti graft agency says that it will not be intimidated by individuals or institutions in its fight against corruption.

The commission’s CEO Twalib Mbarak termed the sentiments political, adding that the views would not deter the agency from the purge against corruption.

Twalib said the commission is independent and only answerable to Parliament. Despite frustrations in the courts, the EACC is determined to fight on, he said. “The politicians are entitled to their thoughts but this shall not deter us from fighting graft regardless of who is involved.”

The recent loss and misuse of the billions meant for construction of two dams in Rift valley has sparked debate, with some politicians linking DP Ruto to the scandal following his last Week’s remarks that it was only Ksh 7 billion in question and not Ksh 21 billions as being alleged.

Some leaders have also accused him of interfering with investigations by the DCI, while others asked him to state how he came up with the figures when the matter was already under probe.
