Alarming Insecurity In JKUAT, Another Student Stabbed By Robbers

A Third Year Second semester student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was stabbed in the neck and back by robbers on Monday evening.

This attack comes barely a month after another student from the institution was fatally stabbed to death by robbers. Thank Heavens Mugendi survived

Shawn Kevin Mugendi, a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Management student, was confronted by two robbers outside Marbles bar and restaurant at 5:30pm.

On the time of incidence, Kelvin was in the company of his girlfriend, a student at Co-operative University.

This attack comes barely a month after another student from the institution was fatally stabbed by robbers.

The robbers demanded the couple hand over their smartphones to them, which they did.

“One of the two robbers took my partner’s phone and ran away. The other one, who remained behind, thought that I had more money to give. He, as a result, continued to harass me. Our push-and-pull triggered the thug to brandish a knife and stab me in the neck and back.

I screamed and passersby, rushed to the scene and descended on the man before putting a tyre around him and setting him alight,” Mr Mugendi who survvied by a whisker narrated.

The JKUAT student, who was at the time bleeding profusely, was rushed to the Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he was treated and discharged on Tuesday at 2 am. The learner has since gone to his parents’ home in Nairobi.

Mr Mugendi’s girlfriend sustained bite injuries from the attack.

Shawn says he and his girlfriend were taking a walk, when they came across the two men, who were standing on the roadside.

A report about the incident was filed at the Juja police post. Juja OCPD Simon Thirikwa for comment said he was on leave, and therefore he couldn’t comment on the issue.

The attack on Shawn and his girlfriend awakened anger among JKUAT students, who accuse the university administration and the police of laxity, when it comes to matters security of learners.
