Following a border row between Uganda and Rwanda, the Rwandan government now seeks to take legal action through the East African Community (EAC), terming the Ugandan sanctions as economic sabotage.

The Rwandan ministry of Foreign affairs lately brought its citizens to notice that they should not travel to Uganda due to ongoing arrests, harassment, torture, incarceration without consular access and deportation.

Rwanda has further accused Uganda of breaching the East African regional bloc’s guidelines, which it seeks to bring to the attention of the Secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania.

State minister for regional cooperation Philemon Mateke, told a Ugandan newspaper that he would confer with his senior line minister on the petition “because interfering with cross-border trade by Rwanda violates the East African Community guidelines yet it (Rwanda) is the chair of the community.”

Rwanda’s ambassador to Uganda, Maj Gen Frank Mugambage, on the other hand said he was “engaged” and unable to speak on Kampala’s latest charges.
