Emmanuel Petit brands Shkodran Mustafi ‘king of blunders’

Mustafi has become the talk of the town after a stupid foul on Kane inside the box. The cross came in inside the box, Kane was marked by Koscielny and all of a sudden Shkodran jostled the German in the back. The linesman overlooked that the striker was offside before that challenge, which is no excuse for such a stupid foul by the 26-year-old.

The Tottenham striker equalized from the spot. Aubameyang failed to restore the lead as his penalty kick was parried by Lloris in the dying minutes of the game. Thus, Mustafi’s gaffe along with some of the referee’s decisions turned out to be decisive for the outcome of the clash:

“I was surprised to see him start (in the north London derby),” Petit gave his verdict on the centre-back’s performance. “He is the king of blunders“.

Another former Gunner Ian Wright was also frustrated by Mustafi’s actions:

“It’s frustrating. It feels like a loss to me. Especially when you look at some of the referee’s decisions. Obviously, with their penalty it was offside. And then Mustafi, his fingerprints are all over the crime scene – pushing him [Kane] in the back. They get the penalty, score the penalty.”
