Duty cut short as speeding matatu tears into tuktuk

Police officers reporting for duty had their lives cut short after a speeding matatu tore into the tuk-tuk that was carrying the two cops in Kwale County.

Two police officers died on the spot and 10 passengers injured in an accident at Waa on the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway in Kwale.

The morning accident involved a tuk tuk and a matatu that was heading to Lunga Lunga from Likoni.

Matuga OCPD Joel Chesire said the bodies of the officers were taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.

“The two officers were in the tuk tuk. The driver sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Chesire said the cause of the accident, which occurred at 8.45am, is yet to be established.

According to Chesire, the two officers were heading to work at Magandia roadblock when the accident occurred.
