”Wakianika Tunaanika” VC exposes 10 lecturers for impregnating University students

At least 10 lecturers at the Embu University are under investigation following claims of having intimate relations with students in exchange for good grades.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Daniel Mugendi alleged that some of the suspects even forced the students they impregnated to procure abortions.

“I have at least ten (staff-student sexual relationship) cases that I am solving currently.

Some of the male suspects even forced the students they impregnated into procuring abortions.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Daniel Mugendi

Professor Mugendi stated that the lecturers threatened the victims with ‘dire consequences’ should they expose their unlawful activities.

“They (lecturers) even threatened the learners against speaking out, warning them that if they do, they’ll get into a lot of trouble. And they (students) believe you because they think you have all the power now that you are working in this institution,” he stated.

The ten are scheduled to appear before the university’s disciplinary committee.

The VC explained that is was against school rules for staff to engage in romantic relationships with students.

“Many of these students have earned marks transmitted sexually. I would tell the university staff, if you want wives, go to Chuka, Kirinyaga or Muranga universities we won’t have any issue with you.

“But as long as it is our students we have an obligation – as Embu University Administration – to take care of them,” the VC warned in a meeting attended by both staff and students.

Mugendi advised the students to report cases of harassment or coercion into sexual relations and present evidence to the administration.
